I find the opening lick works better if you use the open string for the last D in the lick (just before the A-G-low E walkdown). That way you can shift positions and get back to the A faster, and give it a stronger bend at speed. If also “feels” better, more guitar-player-like. It’s the smooth feel that makes me think it’s the way it was written.

And, for the second lick (the one that starts with a pull off from G to E on the D string), I slide the D to E on the A string at the end. This seems the give a sound more like the record. And, it “feels” better.
